British Values

At Ubley we support the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty as well as the mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.  We promote these values through:

  • Our Vision and Values statement ‘We express our Christian Values in all we think, do and say; whilst always respecting people of other faiths or none.’
  • A broad and balanced curriculum that allows children to have:

    a) an understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process;

    b) an appreciation that living under the rule of law protects individual citizens and is essential for their wellbeing and safety;

    c) an understanding that the freedom to choose and hold faiths and beliefs is protected in law;

  • An acceptance that other people having different faiths or beliefs to oneself should be accepted and tolerated, and should not be the cause of prejudicial or discriminatory behaviour; and an understanding of the importance of identifying and combatting discrimination.
  • A knowledge of Britain’s democratic parliamentary system and its central role in shaping our history and values including an annual visit to Bath Council Chambers by our School Council
  • History topics to investigate important social and religious changes in Britain, such as personal liberty and the freedom to choose and hold faiths and beliefs
  • An embedded set of ‘Golden Rules’ that help children to understand that we all abide by the same rules
  • A school council elected by the children through a democratic process
  • The exploration of a set of Christian Values
  • Our RE curriculum

All of the above is underpinned by our school’s Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural (SMSC) development.  Please click here to read this policy for more information.
